DOMINICAN DOWNS STAC IN HOME OPENER
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/19/25) The Dominican University New York women's basketball team defeated non-conference rival St. Thomas Aquinas College in their home opener by a score of 75-61.
The Lady Chargers get their first win of the season as they improve to 1-2 overall while STAC falls to 0-3.
Dominican took the lead four minutes into the first quarter and never lost the lead from there. The Lady Chargers put up 21 points on the scoreboard in the opening quarter and scored 18 points in each of the next three frames.
DU extended to their largest lead of the game late in the third quarter which was 18 points. DU finished the game shooting 40.8% from the field and cashed in 18 points off of STAC turnovers.
Senior guard Cayla Howard led all scorers with 22 points going 8-15 from the field and included going 3-6 from beyond the arc. Howard also picked up a team-high four steals while recording three boards and one block.
Freshmen Sky Priester and Ketura Rutty each scored 10 points. Rutty scored eight of her 10 points in the first half and also finished with six rebounds and two blocks. Priester picked up three assists, two boards, and one steal.
Juniors Isabella Javier and Tamia Nunes each scored nine points and each recorded four assists. Nunes also pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
Emma Gribben added six points and six rebounds.
The Lady Chargers return to action Saturday afternoon when they visit St. Michael's College.
