MONTON NETS GAME WINNER OVER PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY

Philadelphia, Pa. (10/3/16) Freshman forward, Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain) netted the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lead the Dominican College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over host, Philadelphia University, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at Ravenhill Field.

(10/3/16)  Freshman forward, Sergio Monton (Madrid, Spain) netted the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lead the Dominican College men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over host, Philadelphia University, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played at Ravenhill Field.

The Rams scored the first half's only score in the 39th minute and held on to that lead until the 60:24 mark when sophomore Stefan Gualano (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) recorded a headed goal off the corner kick assist from senior James Gragson (Topeka, Kan.)

The game-winner came at 87:24 when Monton took a shot from the left corner of the penalty area.  The ball went off a defender's head and into the net to give the Chargers the victory.

Philadelphia held a 15-13 advantage in shots, while both teams had four corner kicks.

Senior keeper Steven Hegner (Pomona, N.Y.) made five saves in the win.

Dominican (4-6, 3-2 CACC) returns to the DC Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon as they host, Nyack College.  Game time is set for 3:30 pm.
