CHARGERS WIN NON-CONFERENCE BATTLE WITH STAC
Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/23/25) The Dominican University New York men's lacrosse team earned a non-conference win over rival St. Thomas Aquinas College on O'Brien Field this afternoon.
The Chargers improve to 4-10 overall on the season after the 13-11 win. STAC falls to 3-10 overall after the loss.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bryce Layton recorded his second win on the season after recording 15 saves.
Hayden Gaudette started in goal for the Spartans and made 16 saves but suffered the loss.
The game was a back and forth close battle as the opening quarter saw DU score the first goal of the game and STAC answered with two straight.
Dominican finished the quarter with two goals of their own regaining the lead and never lost the lead from there.
Dominican extended to a three goal lead in the second quarter which was their largest of the game.
STAC tied the game but DU finished the half with a late goal to regain the lead by halftime. Dominican outscored STAC 4-2 in the third quarter. Two early STAC goals in the fourth quarter cut the DU lead to one but DU never lost the lead on their way to the 13-11 win.
Nickolas Paletta led the way for the Chargers with five goals with three coming in the first half. Paletta also dished out one assist while picking up three ground balls and caused two turnovers. Paletta also led the Chargers in shots with 16.
James Conklin finished with a hat trick and one assist for four total points. Chad Keyser, DU's leading scorer on the season, added two more goals while also picking up four ground balls.
Jordan Scott also picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Zachary Souza and Nate Melnick each scored one goal. Michael Chies scored one goal and added one assist. Chies also picked up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Rocco Albanese also picked up four ground balls while Michael Aufiero added a team-high seven ground balls.
The Chargers close out the 2025 campaign this Friday when they return to conference play as they host the University of Bridgeport.
