CHARGERS EVEN SEASON SERIES WITH VICTORY OVER EAGLES
Orangeburg, N.Y. (2/25/26) The Dominican University New York men's basletball team evened the season series by defeating the Eagles of Post University, 97-78, this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 13-14 overall and 10-9 in conference play.
Post held an early 7-2 lead, but Dominican would come back to tie the score on two free throws by Koi D. Kirk, Jr. (13-13) with a little over 13 minutes to go in the half. A 12-4 DUNY run put them up 25-17, but the Eagles would rally and went into the intermission with a 45-42 advantage.
A 13-2 Charger run, capped off by back-to-back treys from senior Javel Cherry, to open the second stanza rebuilt a 55-47 lead and the would go on to lead by as many as 21 points en route to the victory.
CACC Defesnive Player of the Week, Kirk, Jr., led four players in double figures with the team's only double-double of 26 points (18-18 from the foul line) and 10 rebounds in the win.
Elijah Peters came off the bench to score 17 points and four rebounds, while Isaiah Honis added 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Cherry recorded 10 points and four boards with Tyler Edore pulling down seven rebounds and Key'Sean Maynard adding five caroms.
The Chargers shot well from the charity stripe, going 33-37 (89.2%) for the game.
Dominican concludes the regular season this coming Saturday when they travel to Wilmington Univeristy.
