GOLDEN FALCONS OUTLAST MEN'S BASKETBALL IN OVERTIME
Rutherford, N.J. (2/11/26) The Dominican University New York men's basketball team fell short in overtime, 87-82, this evening to the Golden Falcons of Felician University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played in Job Gymnasium.
The Chargers now stand at 9-14 overall and 6-9 in conference play.
The first half was tied at 40-all with under two minutes remaining when the Charger offense got going with seven unanswered points, capped off by a trey from senior Javel Cherry with 31 ticks left to claim a 47-40 advantage at the break.
Dominican continued to extend the lead to as many as 10 points (52-42) early in the second half as they began the period on a 5-2 spurt with Isaiah Honis hitting a three-point bucket at the 18:11 mark. DUNY held a 61-57 edge with just over 10 minutes to play in regulations when Felician scored five quick points to push in front, 62-61.
The Golden Falcons would lead 71-65 with 3:33 to go, but the Chargers would rally as Dimitire Alston and Chance Morrish scored six straight points to re-tie the score at 71-71. Alston got things going with two free throws and followed with a basket as Morrish hit the game-tying shot with just under two minutes to go.
Senior Koi D. Kirk, Jr. would eventually send the game to overtime as he iced two key free throws with under a minute to go to make the score 73-73.
The overtime period belonged to the host as they scored the first five points to secure the lead for good and go on to the 87-82 win.
Kirk, Jr. led five Chargers in double figures with 17 points in the loss, while adding seven rebounds and two steals.
Honis scored 16 points, pulled down a team best eight boards and three blocks.
Cherry finished with 13 points and five rebounds, while Alston had a season high 12 points and five caroms.
Sophomore Elijah Peters netted 10 points with Key'Sean Maynard scoring eight points and three rebounds.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Thomas Jefferson University in the 37th Annual Bobby Mulligan Memorial Game. Game time is slated for 4pm on Coach Baxter Court.
