WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL UPENDS PURPLE KNIGHTS
Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/23/25) The Dominican University New York women's volleyball team defeated the visiting Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport, 3-2, this evening in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
With the win the Lady Chargers improve to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Lady Chargers won the opening match 25-22, but UB took the second 25-18. DUNY used a 25-20 third set victory to put them ahead 2-1, but Bridgeport took the fourth set 25-17 to force the decisive fifth set. In the final set, Dominican jumped out to an 11-1 lead and never looked back en route to a 15-5 set win and 3-2 match victory.
The opening set saw the scored tied at 22-all when freshman Trinity Parkin recorded a kill to put the team ahead. Back-to-back UB errors allowed the Lady Chargers to claim the 25-22 set win.
Dominican never trailed in the third set, outscoring their opponent 10-4 over the first 14 points en route to the 25-20 set win.
In the fifth set, Parkin served for seven straight points to allow the Lady Chargers take a commanding 11-1 lead. Ahead 14-5, the duo of Kaeden Sanstead and Leila Ortiz recorded the match-winning block assist. The Lady Chargers posted a .667 attack percentage in the finale, recording 11 kills and just one error.
Junior Layla Shipley led three Lady Chargers in double figures with a career high 12 kills in the victory.
Savannah Tody added 11 kills, a .333 attack percentage and four defensive digs, while Alexandria De Iasi recorded 10 kills and 11 digs.
Setter Sanstead tallied 34 assists and 15 digs, with Parkin finishing the match with five service aces and 12 digs.
Haile Comeau had 11 digs in the win.
The Lady Chargers are scheduled to return to action next Tuesday evening when they travel to non-conference opponent, Southern Connecticut State University.
