SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY DEFEATS WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/15/12) The Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team defeated host, Dominican College, 3-1, this afternoon in a non-conference match played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center. With the loss the Lady Chargers fall to 6-6 overall, while the Owls improve to 11-1 on the season.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/15/12)  The Southern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team defeated host, Dominican College, 3-1, this afternoon in a non-conference match played on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.  With the loss the Lady Chargers fall to 6-6 overall, while the Owls improve to 11-1 on the season.

The first set was tied at six all when the Lady Chargers went on a 7-1 tear to pull ahead 13-7 and later a kill from senior Whitney Ranger* (Ventura, Calif.) made the score 20-14 as the Lady Chargers cruised toa 25-19 win.

The Owls came back to take set two 25-12 and led 16-12 in the third set when Dominican came back to outscore SCSU 9-2 over the next eleven points to take a 21-18 advantage.  Later tied at 23-23, the Owls recorded back-to-back kills for the 25-23 win and 2-1 match lead.

Set four was tied at 7-all when SCSU went on a 13-4 tear to take a commanding 20-11 lead.  DC cut the deficit to 23-20, but the Owls closed out the match with two straight kills for the 25-21 win and 3-1 match victory.

Freshman Tori Dexter (Selah, Wash.) led the Lady Chargers with 15 kills and added 17 digs.  Outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, N.Y.) tallied 11 kills and also had 17 defensive digs.

Ranger had a team leading 31 assists, while libero Jordyn Fuller* (Keller, Texas) led the team with 23 defensive digs.

Dominican is back in action on Monday night when they host the College of Saint Rose in a non-conference match at 7pm on Coach Baxter Court.
