WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO HOLY FAMILY UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, NY (9/26/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team fell to the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University, 3-2 (25-22, 27-29, 25-11, 20-25, 11-15) this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Orangeburg, NY (9/26/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team fell to the visiting Tigers of Holy Family University, 3-2 (25-22, 27-29, 25-11, 20-25, 11-15) this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
The lead volleyed back and forth in the first set until DC took advantage of two Tiger attack errors to hold a 20-18 lead and went on a 5-3 run to close out the first set 25-22. DC held a 16-12 lead in the second set, but Holy Family University rallied to knot the set at 23-23. Once again tied at 27-a piece, the Tigers closed out the set with a kill and service ace to tie the match at 1-1.
In the third set, Dominican used a 9-1 run to build up an 11-3 and extended their lead to 18-8 en route to a 25-11 set win and take a 2-1 lead. Holy Family responded in the fourth set by building up a 15-10 lead and never looked back for the 25-20 victory.
In the decisive fifth set tied at 11-11, the Tigers tallied four straight kills for the 15-11 win and the 3-2 match victory.
Sophomore outside hitter Aly Keihl (Pewaukee, WI) led three Tigers in kills with 16 and had a team leading 10 digs. Katie Hornback (Indianapolis, IN) had 12 kills and Jill Keeve (La Grange, IL) added 11 kills. Setter Aimee Drabyn (Avon, IN) had a match leading 44 assists.
Dominican was led by freshman outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) with 24 kills and 11 defensive digs. Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had a team leading 40 assists and eight kills, while Kristen Loney (Pine Bush, NY) had eight kills.
With the victory Holy Family improves to 6-13 ovrall and 4-1 in the CACC, while Dominican falls to 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the CACC.
Dominican is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to non-conference opponent, Pace University for a 7pm match.
