WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TURNS BACK MERCY COLLEGE
Dobbs Ferry, NY (9/3/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team turned back host Mercy College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23), for their first win of the 2009 season this evening in a non-conference match.
Dobbs Ferry, NY (9/3/09) The Dominican College women's volleyball team turned back host Mercy College, 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-23), for their first win of the 2009 season in a non-conference match held this evening.
The Lady Chargers took an early 11-6 lead in the first set, but the Mavericks put together a 5-2 run to cut the lead to 13-11. DC rallied to close out the first set by taking a 12-5 advantage en route to the 25-16 win.
Trailing 11-6 in set two, Dominican went on a 12-7 spurt to knot the set at 18-18 and continued on the offensive with a 7-4 run for the 25-22 second set victory.
The third set saw both teams tied at 10-10, when Mercy went on a 6-2 run to take a 16-12 lead. Dominican rallied to close out the third set with a 13-7 run for the 25-23 set win and 3-0 match victory.
Freshman outside hitter Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) led all attackers with 16 kills and tallied eight digs on the night. Fellow freshman Courtney Heard (Ventura, CA) added five kills, while freshman setter Whitney Ranger (Ventura, CA) had a match leading 32 assists. Junior Catherine Giordano (Stony Point, NY) led the team with 13 digs.
With the victory Dominican improves to 1-2 on the year, while Mercy falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Chargers are back in action on Saturday when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play on the road at Goldey-Beacom College. Game time is set for 11am.
