LADY CHARGERS EDGED BY LIGHTNING ON SENIOR DAY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/1/25) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team fell in conference action in their home finale to Goldey-Beacom College on O'Brien Field.
Lexy Yeager scored the game winner with two seconds left to lift the Lightning over the Lady Chargers by a score of 4-3.
Dominican falls to 4-10-3 overall and 3-6-1 in conference play while GBC improves to 6-7-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the CACC.
The Lightning jumped in front in the 13th minute when Maddie Strayer connected for the first goal of the game after taking a pass from Ryley Dixon who picked up the assist.
Back to back penalty kicks for the Lady Chargers by Emily Rath and Jessie Maraia only two minutes apart from each other gave the Lady Chargers the lead which held into halftime.
The Lightning scored two unanswered goals of their own, both by Tess Pearce, with the first coming in the 59th minute off of a double assist from Dixon and Ella Badra. Pearce's next goal put the Lightning ahead in the 70th minute after cleaning up the loose ball off of her PK attempt.
The Lady Chargers tied the game at 3-3 when Maraia found the back of the net for her second goal of the game and seventh of the season. Penny Knott picked up the assist.
The Lightning earned a corner kick with time running out as Pearce sent the ball into the box and Yeager scored with two seconds remaining to give the Lightning the 4-3 win.
GBC goalkeeper Malaika Nunziata made four saves and picked up her fifth win of the season. DU keeper Stella Paton picked up six saves but suffered the loss.
Prior to today's contest, the Lady Chargers honored their five graduating seniors with a pregame ceremony. Seniors: Stella Paton, Mary Gardner, Nicholette Brunner, Jamieson Druckenmiller, and Juliana Battaglia were honored prior to today's game.
The Lady Chargers return to action next Tuesday on the road against the University of Bridgeport in their regular season finale.
