Brookville, N.Y. (9/5/24) The Dominican University New York women's soccer team began the 2024 season with a 4-1 loss to non-conference Division I opponent, LIU, in a game played today at LIU Soccer Park.
The win lifts the Sharks to a 1-4 mark on the season, while the Lady Chargers now stand at 0-1.
LIU scored back-to-back goals in the 19th and 20th minute for the early 2-0 advantage, but sophomore forward Jess Maraia got the Lady Chargers on the scoreboard at the 23:20 mark with her first goal of the season off the dish from forward Kaitlyn Zeeb.
The Sharks added two more scores in the second half to lead them to the 4-1 win.
Lady Charger keeper Nelly Arvidsson made two saves in the loss.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to non-conference foe, St. Thomas Aquinas College.
