WOMEN'S SOCCER EDGED IN A SHOOTOUT IN THE CACC QUARTERFINALS BY GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Orangeburg, N.Y. (11/9/21) The #1 seeded Dominican College Chargers played host to the #8 seeded Georgian Court University in the 2021 CACC Women’s Soccer Championship Quarterfinals at OMM Field #5.

The Lions defeated the Chargers in a shootout, 5-4, to earn a trip to the 2021 CACC Semifinals.
Lauren Drummond (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) started in goal for the Chargers and made four saves in the game. Alyssa Dias was the goalkeeper for the Lions and recorded nine saves.
The Chargers took 26 total shots as a team and recorded 10 on goal. Isabella Wysocki (Rahway, N.J.) led the team in shots with five. Sabine Sorensen (Ballerup, Denmark), Alyana Gonel (Teaneck, N.J.), and Alissa Madura (Warwick, N.Y.) each took four shots.
The Lions recorded 22 shots with Abby Kennelly adding a team-high seven shots. Haley Pignatelli added five shots and Aliya Canfield took four shots.
GCU struck first 31 minutes into the first half when Aliya Canfield was awarded a penalty kick and scored for the 1-0 lead. The Lions took the 1-0 lead into halftime.
The Chargers tied the game at 1-1 when Madura scored at 59:51 off the pass from Sorensen.
The game remained tied until the end of regulation and went to overtime.
Dominican outshot the Lions in the first OT period 3-0 but were not able to score. DC outshot the Lions in the second OT period 4-1 and Dias made two saves to keep the game tied and force the shootout.
In the shootout the Lions connected on their first four shots, while the Chargers scored three out of four and were down 4-3. Drummond made a hugh save on Nicole Turelli to keep the Chargers alive.
Abby Montera (New City, N.Y.) then scored to even the shootout at four a-piece. Maria Fleetwood followed with a goal to put her team up 5-4.
GCU's Dias made the save on the final DC attempt to secure the victory and send the Lions to the CACC Semifinals.
Dominican concludes their season with an overall record of 10-5-1.
