DOMINICAN'S SMITHWICK NAMED CACC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Orangeburg, NY (4/30/12) Dominican College women's lacrosse player, Allison Smithwick, has been named the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year as was announced by the CACC office today. Three other Lady Chargers earned All-CACC accolades, while one player received Honorable Mention honors.
Orangeburg, NY (4/30/12) Dominican College women's lacrosse player, Allison Smithwick, has been named the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year as was announced by the CACC office today. Three other Lady Chargers earned All-CACC accolades, while one player received Honorable Mention honors.
Michelle Fiorvanti and KC Jentzen were named to the All-CACC First Team, while Olivia Antonopoulos was an All-CACC Second Team selection. Aubree Williams* received Honorable Mention honors.
Smithwick, a freshman attacker from Commack, NY, enjoyed a breakthrough rookie campaign as she posted 54 points, which ranked as the ninth-most among CACC leaders. She finished the regular season with 32 goals (12th in CACC) and 17 assists (6th in CACC). Smithwick was honored as the CACC Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week once this season and also earned ECAC Player of the Week honors on one ocassion.
Fiorvanti, a junior defender also from Commack, NY, makes her second overall All-CACC appearance in her career. She was named to the All-CACC Second Team in 2010. In 14 games played this season, she scored one goal and two assists. Fiorvanti is a key component of the Lady Charger defense.
Jentzen, a sophomore midfielder from Pearl River, NY, led the Lady Chargers in scoring with 39 goals. She ranks ninth in the CACC in goals and 16th in assists in 12 games played this season.
Antonopoulos, a sophomore defender from Baldwin, NY, has recorded four goals and three assists for seven points in 15 games played this season. This is her first All-CACC appearance.
Williams, a senior midfielder from Great Meadows, NJ, receives Honorable Mention honors for the second time in her career. She finished third on the team with 28 goals and 37 points. She was named the Rookie of the Year and to the All-CACC First Team in 2009, received Second Team honors in 2010 and Honorable Mention honors in 2011. She finishes her career with 134 goals.
