WOMEN'S LACROSSE ENDS SEASON WITH LOSS TO GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Lakewood, NJ (4/24/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost their final game of the season after falling to host Georgian Court University, 22-6, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
Lakewood, NJ (4/24/10) The Dominican College women's lacrosse team lost their final game of the season after falling to host Georgian Court University, 22-6, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
Georgian Court University netted the game's first goal just 32 seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Dominican tied the contest just under three minutes later as junior attacker Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) netted a goal off the assist from Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ).
GCU roared ahead with a 13-0 run over a span of 24 minutes to take a 14-1 run before the Lady Chargers scored the unassisted goal by Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) with 0:15 seconds before the intermission for a 14-2 score at the break.
A 2-0 run by the Lions extended their lead to 16-2, but junior Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) netted the unassisted goal with 21:41 left in regulation to make the score 16-3. Three more Lions goals made the score 19-3, but a 2-0 spurt by the Lady Chargers off goals from Kiernan and Karlsen cut the deficit to 19-5.
Over the remaining 12:27 seconds, GCU outscored Dominican 3-1 for the fianl 22-6 victory. Williams scored her second goal of the day off the assist from Carla Gimm (St. Peter's PA) with just under ten minutes remaining in the game.
Lady Chargers goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) had 10 saves in the loss.
With the loss Dominican ends their season with a 6-8 overall record and a 5-7 record in the CACC. This season the team set a new program record for wins and new record for CACC victories.
