Bloomfield, N.J. (2/19/19)  The Dominican College women's basketball team improved to 13-12 overall and 11-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after defeating host, Bloomfield College, 84-71, this evening in a game played in the Bloomfield Gym.

Dominican opened the game with the first five points, but Bloomfield would later rally with seven straight points and took a 13-9 edge with under two minutes left in the first quarter.  Junior Jasmine Gee (Englewood, N.J.) recorded back-to-back layups to re-tie the game and Ashley Merritt (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) hit a trey with eight ticks on the clock to give the Lady Chargers a 16-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

DC netted back-to-back-to-back three point buckets from Khay'la Latimer (Teaneck, N.J.), Merritt and senior Ciera Rivera (Pomona, N.Y.) to extend their lead to 25-13 just two minutes into the second quarter and then went on to outscore their opponents, 24-12, in the quarter to give them a 40-25 lead at the intermission.

The Dominican offense continued to dominate the contest as they netted 27 points in the third quarter increase the lead to 67-42 heading into the final 10 minutes.  BC would record 29 points in the final frame, compared to DC's 17, but the Lady Chargers brought home the 84-71 win.

Gee led three Lady Chargers in double figures with 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

Korina Guerra (White Plains, N.Y.) added 14 points and five boards, while Merritt netted 11 points and a game best seven assists.

As a team, Dominican shot 50.8% from the floor for the game, going 32-63 and out rebounded their opponents, 39-36.

Deja McKenzie led three Bloomfied players in double figures with 22 points.

The Lady Chargers return to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Post University.
