DOMINICAN, DOWLING PREVAIL ON DAY TWO OF THE 2008 DC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT
Orangeburg, NY (11/16/08) Dominican College and Dowling College both won their second games this afternoon at the 2008 DC Women's Basketball Tip-Off Tournament. Host Dominican turned back Saint Anselm College, 62-52, while Dowling prevailed over Nyack College, 87-77, in overtime.

In the first game, the Lady Chargers opened up with a 6-2 lead but the Hawks battled back with a 7-0 run to take an early 9-6 lead. DC answered with a 4-0 run en route to a 32-26 halftime lead. Senior center Shalissa Burgess (Englewood, NJ) led the way with a 13 point first half performance.
Dominican never trailed in the second half, but survived a 6-0 run by Saint Anselm with just over 11 minutes left in the game which knotted the contest at 40-40. DC responded with a 7-2 run which game them a five point advantage (47-42) as they went on to the 62-52 win.
Senior guard Althea Chambers (Yonkers, NY) led the Lady Chargers with 16 points and seven rebounds. Burgess finished with 15 points and seven boards, while junior Adele Laskowski (Wayne, NJ) netted 11 pionts and a team leadig four assists. Freshman Marley Klunk (York, PA) added eight points and seven caroms off the bench in the win.
Saint Anselm was led by freshman forward Megan Howard (St. Paul, MN) with 12 points and seven rebounds. Junior Courtney May (Lakeville, MA) netted 10 points and six rebounds in the loss.
In a tight second game, Nyack tailed by ten points (65-55) with 3:18 left in the game but closed out the end of regulation with a 12-2 run, including a layup by Khamari Tellis (Montclair, NJ) with just thirty seconds left to tie the game at 67-67.
In the overtime period, Dowling responded with 20 points to Nyack's 10 for the final 87-77 Golden Lion victory.
Christie Marrone (Brooklyn, NY) led the Golden Lions with 21 points and had seven assists. Simona Bartkova (Greve, Denmark) netted 20 points and nine boards, while Molly Tubridy (Broad Channel, NY) contributed 19 points and a team leading 10 rebounds in the win. Senior Michele Yawn (Walker, LA) netted 10 points, seven rebounds and a team leading eight assists.
The Warriors were led by sophomore Victoria Sweet (Harlem, NY) with 15 pionts. Junior Kelsy McIntosh (North Pole, AK) netted 14 points and seven rebounds, while Shelly Yount (Belvidere, NJ) had 13 points and grabbed a team leading 10 rebounds. Tellis finished with 12 points and Jasmine Mintor (Richmond, VA) had 10 points and six assists in the loss.
With the victories Dominican improves to 1-1, while Dowling improves to 2-0 on the season. Nyack drops to 1-1 and Saint Anselm opens up the season at 0-2.
