Staten Island, N.Y. (3/20/26) The Dominican University New York softball team split a non-conference double-header with host, the College of Staten Island, in games played today at the CSI Softball Complex.
The Lady Chargers won the first game 8-2, but fell in the nightcap by the score of 7-3.
With the split, the Lady Chargers are now 1-13 on the season.
Game One: Dominican opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning as catcher Layla Albarran blasted a three-run home run to left center field for the early 3-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers added a run in the third as pitcher Gianna Longo delivered an RBI single up-the-middle to take a 4-0 advantage.
A Longo two-run home run to right center extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth and the Lady Chargers used RBI doubles off the bats of Albarran and Emily Angulo in the top of the seventh to claim an 8-0 lead. CSI scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final 8-2 win.
Albarran went 3-4 with four RBIs in the game, while Longo went 3-4 with three RBIs.
Longo also picked up the complete game victory, allowing two runs on 10 hits and striking out four batters.
Game Two: Longo got things going in the top of the first with a run-scoring single through the left side for the early lead.
The Dolphins rallied with a six-run bottom of the second inning to take their first lead of the day and they added a run in the fifth to claim a 7-1 advantage.
Dominican scored two runs in the top of the sixth as Albarran hit her second home run of the day, this one a two-run shot to left center field for the eventual 7-3 CSI victory.
Albarran had two RBIs in the game.
Starter Victoria Iorio took the loss in one and 2/3 innigns of work. Senior Emily Baxter collected five strikeouts over the next 4+ innings.
The Lady Chargers return to action tomorrow when they open up Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play at Goldey-Beacom College.
