SOFTBALL CLOSES OUT PLAY AT THE SPRING GAMES
Bartow, Fla. (3/7/26) The Dominican University New York softball team closed out play today at THE Spring Games with losses to Lynn University and McKendree University.
The Lady Chargers fell to Lynn, 20-3, and lost to McKendree, 8-0 to finish the trip with an 0-12 record.
Game One: Dominican opened the game with a run in the top of the first as first basemen Kindel Johnson hit an RBI double for the early 1-0 advantage. The Fighting Knight offense exploded for 11 runs in the bottom stanza to jump out to an 11-1 lead. Lynn added two runs in the second to extend their lead to 13-1. DUNY scored two runs on a sacrifice fly ball off the bat of Layla Albarran and a run-scoring single up-the-middle to make the score 13-3.
A four-run fourth inning for the Fighting Knights led them to the 20-3 win.
Johnson finished the game with two hits in the loss.
Starter Melanie Fiumara took the loss.
Game Two: The Bearcats scored runs in the second, third and fourth innings to guide them to an 8-0 win.
Johnson and Albarran had hits for the Lady Chargers.
Dominican returns to action on March 18th when they take the short road trip to St. Thomas Aquinas College.
