Winter Haven, Fla. (3/3/26) The Dominican University New York softball team suffered two losses at THE Spring Games today as they fell to the University of Sioux Falls, 4-1 and Southwest Minnesota State University, 2-0.
Dominican is now 0-6 on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Cougars struck for a run on a throwing error for a 1-0 advantage.
USF struck for three runs in the sixth to extend the lead to 4-0. Dominican got on the board in the top of the seventh as third basemen Nicole Mata hit a run-scoring single to centerfield to score Emily Angulo for the final 4-1 score.
Mata finished with two hits in the game.
Starter Emily Baxter suffered the complete game loss.
Game Two: The Mustangs scored a run in the second on a sacrifice fly ball and added a run in the sixth on a RBI ground out for the 2-0 win.
The Lady Chargers had three hits in the game off the bats of Nicole Mata, Deja Robinson and Mia Valverde.
Dominican starter Gianna Longo took the loss in six innings pitched.
In action tomorrow at THE Spring Games, the Lady Chargers will face Eckerd College and Wheeling University.
