PURPLE KNIGHTS SWEEP LADY CHARGERS

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/16/25)  The Dominican University New York softball team lost a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader to the visiting Purple Knights from the University of Bridgeport in games played today at the DUNY Softball Field.

UB won the first game, 10-6, and took the nightcap, 10-3, to now stand at 14-25 overall and 9-9 in the CACC.

Game One:  The Purple Knights scored in the first two innings for the early 2-0 advantage before Dominican scored a run in the bottom of the second on a UB fielding error. 

Bridgeport added a run in the fifth and tacked on five more runs in the sixth for a 9-1 lead. The Lady Chargers scored five in the bottom of the sixth when shortstop Chloe McIntosh brought home two runs with a double to right center and Emma Kaszovitz plated a run with a ground out.  First basemen Kindel Johnson followed with a run-scoring single through the right side and catcher Giovanna Salcido hit an RBI double down the rightfield line to cut the defict to 9-6.  UB scored a run in the top of the seventh for the 10-6 win.

McIntosh finished the game with two RBIs.  

Starter Emily Baxter suffered the complete game loss.

Game Two:  Once again, the Purple Knights scored in their first at-bat and took an early 3-0 lead.  Dominican got a run back in the bottom of the first on the RBI single up-the-middle off the bat of Adriana Barnes.  

Bridgeport scored three runs in the fourth, a run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to in crease the lead to 10-1.

In the final at-bat, the Lady Chargers scored two runs on the RBI infield single by Kaszovitz and an RBI groundout from Barnes for the final 10-3 score.

McIntosh had two hits, while Barnes finished with two RBIs in the loss.

Starter Gianna Barbieri took the loss in three innings of work.

Dominican returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Georgian Court University.
