Haverstraw, N.Y. (4/14/25) The Dominican University New York softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader with the visiting Golden Falcons of Felician University in games played today at the Haverstraw Recreation Complex.
The Golden Falcons rallied to win game one, 3-2, while the Lady Chargers rallied from a 7-1 deficit to take the nightcap, 9-7.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when Felician used an RBI single down the left field line for the 1-0 advantage.
Dominican tied the game in the bottom frame when shortstop Chloe McIntosh hit a run-scoring triple to make the score 1-1.
Catcher Giovanna Salcido gave DUNY a 2-1 edge in the sixth as she hit an RBI double to right center field. The hit marked Salcido's 100th career hit.
Felician re-tied the game in the top of the seventh and used an RBI double in the eighth for the 3-2 win.
Starter Emily Baxter suffered the loss.
Game Two: Felician got the early lead in the nightcap with a run in the top of the second inning. The lead would not last as the Lady Chargers countered with a run in the bottom frame as Salcido blasted a solo homerun over the right centerfield fence for a 1-1 score.
The Golden Falcons re-took the lead in the top of the third with four runs and added two more in the fourth to claim a 7-1 lead.
Dominican got four runs back in the bottom of the fifth as Toni Jo Lopez hit an RBI double down the left field line and later McIntosh delivered a two-run double to center field. Right fielder Isabella Mitterando produced a two out RBI single down the right field line to make the score 7-5.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Chargers scored four runs on three hits. Mia Valverde got the rally going with an RBI triple down the right field line and Lopez followed with a run-scoring double. Following a walk to McIntosh, center fielder Emma Kaszovitz gave DUNY the lead with a two-run double to left center field for the 9-7 lead.
In the top of the seventh, reliever Baxter recorded a 1-2-3 inning to pick up her third save of the season.
Lopez and Jalaeya LaPorte had two hits a-piece in the win.
McIntosh, Kaszovitz and Lopez all had two RBIs each.
Reliver Melanie Fiumara earned her first inning of the season.
Dominican returns to action on Wedensday when they host the University of Bridgeport in a CACC doubleheader.
