Philadelphia, Pa. (4/13/25) The Dominican University New York softball team earned two conference wins this afternoon after they swept the Rams of Thomas Jefferson University.
Dominican took game one by a score of 5-0 and then followed with a 6-3 win in game two.
The Lady Chargers improve to 13-22 overall and 8-6 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican scored one run in the first inning, three runs in the fifth, and one in the sixth for the 5-0 win.
Emily Baxter got her 10th win on the season in shutout fashion after going six innings while striking out five and allowed six hits.
The Lady Chargers got on the board after an RBI-single in the first inning by Adriana Barnes.
DU rallied for three runs in the fifth inning after RBI-doubles by Chloe McIntosh and Kindel Johnson.
Dominican added their final run after a Nicole Mata homer in the sixth inning. Victoria Iorio tossed a scoreless seventh to secure the 5-0 win.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers completed the sweep with a 6-3 win in game two.
Gianna Barbieri tossed five innings while allowing three runs and earned her second win of the season.
An RBI-single in the first inning by Barnes got the scoring started and then DU pushed their lead to 2-0 in the second after an RBI-double by McIntosh.
A sacrifice bunt by Toni-Jo Lopez pushed across the third run of the game in the fourth inning.
Bridget Shield homered in the bottom half of the fourth inning to put the Rams on the board.
RBI-singles by Giovanna Salcido and Mata in the top of the fifth inning extended the Lady Charger lead to 5-1.
The Rams closed the gap in the bottom half of the fifth inning after a two-RBI single by Mackenzie Ward.
McIntosh smacked a solo homer in the top of the sixth inning to give DU a 6-3 lead. Baxter entered the game in relief in the sixth inning and threw two scoreless innings to earn her second save of the season.
DU returns to action tomorrow when they host Felician University.
