DOMINICAN SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY

New Castle, Del. (4/29/21) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Wilmington University, in games played today at Asbury Field. Dominican won the opener, 6-1 while the hosts took the second game, 11-3, in five innings.

New Castle, Del. (4/29/21) The Dominican College softball team split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with host, Wilmington University, in games played today at Asbury Field. Dominican won the opener, 6-1 while the hosts took the second game, 11-3, in five innings.

With the split, Dominican is now 19-13 overall and 18-6 in conference play.

Game One:  Wilmington led 1-0 until the top of the third inning when the Lady Chargers loaded the bases with two outs on singles by Shannon Knipl (Stony Point, N.Y.) and Kristin Miscia (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and a walk to Haylee Redmond-Ridge (Bellflower, Calif.).  Designated player Andrea Hester (Yorba Linda, Calif.) blasted a grand slam over the left field fence to give the Lady Chargers a 4-1 lead.

DC added to the lead in the top of the seventh inning when center fielder Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) tripled home a run and then scored on the throw for the 6-1 lead and eventual win.

Hester led the way with four RBI.

Starter Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) picked up the complete game win to improve to 7-5 on the year.

Game Two:  In the second game, the Wildcats led 9-0 until the top of the seventh inning when the Lady Charger offense scored three runs.  Third basemen Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) led off the inning with a solo home run over the left field fence and later with two outs Miscia delivered a two-run double down the left field line to make the score 9-3.

Two WU runs in the bottom of the fifth led them to the 11-3 win in five innings.

Hester went 2-2 in the game.

Journey Limardo (Anaheim, Calif.) took the loss in one inning of work to fall to 10-3 on the year.

Dominican is slated to return to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Goldey-Beacom College.
