Sparkill, N.Y. (3/14/21) The Dominican College softball team fell in a non-conference twinbill to host, St. Thomas Aquinas College, 7-6 and 10-2, in games played this afternoon at Spartan Field.

Sparkill, N.Y. (3/14/21) The Dominican College softball team fell in a non-conference twinbill to host, St. Thomas Aquinas College, 7-6 and 10-2, in games played this afternoon at Spartan Field.
With the loss Dominican now stands at 0-6 overall while, STAC improves to 4-2.
Game One: Dominican trailed 3-0 through two innings, but got on the scoreboard in the top of the third when left fielder Bailey Bell (Washington, Pa.) singled home Rajene Bowe (Ellendale, Del.) to make the score 3-1. STAC added four runs in the fourth to jump ahead 7-1, but Dominican scored four runs on three hits in the sixth to cut the lead to a run. The first run came one on a Spartan error, while freshman Madison Walker (Southampton, N.J.) blasted a three-run home run.
The Lady Chargers added a run in the top of the seventh on an error for the fina 7-6 score.
Bell finished with two hits and Walker had three RBI.
Junior Shelby Smith (Valley Center, Calif.) took the loss (0-2) in 3 2/3 innings of work. Samantha Carbonara (Newark, Del.) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings.
Game Two: In the nightcap, DC recorded a run in the second on the RBI single from shortstop Shannon Knipl (Stony Point, N.Y.) and added a run in the third on the run-scoring double by Walker for the early 2-0 lead.
The Spartans countered with three runs in their half of the third, added five more in the fourth and one in the fifth for the 10-2 win.
Walker went 3-3 in the game, while Rebecca Haggerty (Grafton, Mass.) had two hits.
Starter Kyra Weins (Chilliwack, British Columbia ) suffered the loss (0-3) in three innings of work, while Journey Limardo (Anaheim, Calif.) finished the final 1 2/3 innings.
The Lady Chargers are slated to be back in action on Friday when they travel to non-conference foe, Mercy College.
