Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/18/15) The Dominican College softball squad improved to 23-15 overall and 15-5 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play after sweeping the visiting Tigers from Holy Family University, 10-0 in five innings and 10-2 in six innings, in games played today at the DC Softball Field.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Lady Chargers struck for 10 runs en route to the 10-0 five inning victory.
Designated player Anne Shiebler (Wrentham, Mass.) had and RBI single to center field, followed by a two-run single up-the-middle from first basemen Shannon Truppi (Little Ferry, N.J.) to give DC a 3-0 lead. Later Elontay Collins (San Diego, Calif.) delievered a bases loaded triple to left center which brought home all three runners to increase the lead to 8-0.
A bases loaded walk to Truppi scored the ninth Lady Charger run and second basemen MacKenzie Wise (Middletown, N.Y.) was hit by-a-pitch with the bases loaded for the tenth run.
Collins went 2-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
Madison Dove (Cypress, Calif.) got the shut out win, recording four strikeouts and scattering three hits.
Game Two: In the night cap, Dominican scored three runs in the second for the 3-0 advantage. Wise had an RBI bunt single, followed by a wild pitch which allowed Jacqueline Gonzalez (San Antonio, Texas) to come home. The third run scored on an RBI ground out from Ariana Trembone (Staten Island, N.Y.)
The Lady Chargers added to their lead in the third inning on RBI singles from Jillian Regan (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Shiebler to increase the lead to 5-0.
The Tigers got a run back in the top of the fourth, but DC scored two runs in the bottom stanza as catcher Shannon Haukap* (Edmonds, Wash.) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score and Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) hit an infield single that brought in a run. A Tiger run in the fifth cut the deficit to 7-2.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Lady Chargers tacked on three more runs for the 10-2 win. Haukap hit a two-run double to left center field and advanced to third on the throw. On the next pitch, she scored on a wild pitch to end the game and give Domincian the 10-2 win.
Maska picked up the win, allowing two runs on five hits and three strikeouts.
Dominican is set to be in action again tomorrow as they travel to Concordia College.
