RAGAZZO NAMED CACC ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/1/13) Dominican College softball player, Kimberly Ragazzo, has been named the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year following a vote by the league's 14 conference coaches and announced at the annual awards banquet tonight. Five other members of the Lady Chargers earned All-CACC accolades.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (5/1/13)  Dominican College softball player, Kimberly Ragazzo, has been named the 2013 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Rookie of the Year following a vote by the league's 14 conference coaches and announced at the annual awards banquet tonight.  Five other members of the Lady Chargers earned All-CACC accolades.

Ragazzo, along with teammates Delaney Childers, Julie Plante*, Paige Berzak and Shannon Haukap were all named to the All-CACC First Team.

Ashley Corrao* received Second Team accolades.

Ragazzo, a freshman first basemen/pitcher from Lawrenceville, N.J., enjoyed a breakout season for the Lady Chargers as she outpaced the conference in slugging percentage, total bases, runs batted in, home runs and runs scored.  She was third in the conference in walks and ninth in batting average, hits and doubles.  In league play, Ragazzo hit .453 (5th) with a .860 slugging percentage (2nd), 9 homeruns (1st) and 36 RBI (1st).

 

 

 

Childers, a senior pitcher and utility player makes her fourth All-Conference appearance and her third straight First Team accolades.  She ranks fourth in the CACC in home runs, seventh in runs scored, ninth in slugging percentage, 12th in hits and is in the top 25 in batting average.  On the mound, she leads the conference in games started, ranks second in shut outs, innings pitched, innings pitched and is third in wins.

Plante, a senior outfielder/infielder from Swansea, Mass., earns First Team honors for the third straight season after earning Honorable Mention accolades in 2010.  She ranks third in the CACC in hits and RBIs, fourth in doubles, fifth in runs scored and seventh in batting average and home runs.  She became the school's All-Time hits leader in 2013.

Berzak, a junior designated player from Cypress, Calif., makes her first appearance on the First Team after being named to the Second Team in 2012.  She ranks 13th in the CACC in RBIs, 10th in on-base percentage and 16th in batting average.

 

 

 

 

 

Haukap, a freshman outfielder/catcher, is second in the conference in home runs and slugging percentage, fifth in batting average, sixth in runs scored, seventh in RBIs and on-base percentage, 13th in hits and 14th in doubles.

 

 

 

 

Corrao, a senior catcher from Staten Island, N.Y., makes her fourth all-conference appearance and earns her second Second Team honors.  She leads the conference in walks and on-base percentage, seventh in home runs, 11th in runs scored and slugging percentage, 13th in RBIs, 14th in doubles and batting average.
