LADY CHARGERS SPLIT WITH UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/21/13) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II East Region, split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences in games played this afternoon. The Devils edged the Lady Chargers, 3-2 in nine innings in game one, while DC downed USCI, 8-0 in five innings in the night cap.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (4/21/13)  The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II East Region, split a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with the visiting Devils from the University of the Sciences in games played this afternoon.  The Devils edged the Lady Chargers, 3-2 in nine innings in game one, while DC downed USCI, 8-0 in five innings in the night cap.

Game One:  Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on the solo home run off the bat of CACC Player of the Week, Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.)

The Devils tied the score in the top of the seventh with a one out home run.  USCI went ahead in the eighth inning, but DC tied the game as shortstop Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) led off the inning with a home run over the left field fence to make the score 2-2.  A one-our RBI single in the ninth gave the Devils the 3-2 lead and eventual victory.

Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) had two hits in the game.

Reliever Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) took the loss (6-5) in 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned).

Game Two:  DC exploded for five runs in the first inning as Ragazzo had an RBI single through the left side and Ashley Corrao* (Staten Island, N.Y.) drew a bases loaded walk.  Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) delivered a two-run single up-the-middle and Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice after bunting the ball which allowed the fifth run to score.

The Lady Chargers added two runs in the second inning as Plante hit a solo home run to center field and Ragazzo had a two-out single down the right field line to extend the lead to 7-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Corrao reached on a fielder's choice which allowed Ragazzo to score from third for the 8-0 win.

Ragazzo went 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead DC in the win.

Left-handed hurler Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) got the win (14-8), scattering three hits and striking out two.
