(4/19/13) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II East Region, downed Caldwell College, currently ranked first in the East Region and 17th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, 8-2 and 8-5 yesterday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header.

(4/19/13) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II East Region, downed Caldwell College, currently ranked first in the East Region and 17th in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll, 8-2 and 8-5 yesterday afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header.
With the victories Dominican improves to 23-17 overall and 18-0 in the CACC,while the Cougars fall to 32-7 overall and 20-2 in conference play.
Game One: Dominican took control of game one with a four-run third inning as freshman shortstop Alyssa Schwed (Kinnelon, N.J.) led off the inning with a home run to left center field. Designated player Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) later followed with a one out two-run shot to center field and the next batter catcher Ashley Corrao* (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a solo blast to left field.
The Lady Chargers added two more runs in the fourth inning on RBI hits from Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) and CACC and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week, Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) to extend the lead to 6-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Plante brought home a run on a sacrifice fly ball and a RBI single up-the-middle of the bat of Haukap in the seventh gave the Lady Chargers the 8-2 win.
Schwed went 4-4 in game one, while four other players had two hits a-piece.
Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) got the win (6-5) in five innings of work. Ragazzo came in for final two innings.
Game Two: DC struck again in the third inning of game two with three runs as Haukap hit an RBI single and pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) later delievered a two-run shot over the right-center field fence.
Dominican added a run in the fifth on the run scoring single to center field from Corrao to make the score 4-1. The Cougars answered back in the bottom stanza with three runs to tie score at 4-4 and went ahead in the sixth inning, 5-4.
The Lady Chargers rallied with a four-run seventh inning as Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) hit a bases loaded one out single up-the-middle to score a run and senior Kathryn Coles* (Farmville, Va.) followed with a two-run double. Plante later had a two-out RBI single to give Dominican the 8-5 win.
Feerick and Plante each had two hits in game two.
Childers went four innings in the no decision, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits. Ragazzo picked up the win (5-4) in three innings of relief, allowing two runs on six hits.
