SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY

Kutztown, Pa. (4/16/13) The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with Kutztown University today in games played at North Campus Field. With the split, the Lady Chargers now stand at 21-17 overall, while the Golden Bears are now 22-18 on the season.

Kutztown, Pa. (4/16/13)  The Dominican College softball team split a non-conference double-header with Kutztown University today in games played at North Campus Field.    With the split, the Lady Chargers now stand at 21-17 overall, while the Golden Bears are now 22-18 on the season.

Game One:  Despite out hitting KU, 8-5, the Lady Chargers fell 3-0 as the Golden Bears scored a run in the first inning and added two more in the sixth.

Designated player Ashley Corrao* (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 3-3 in the game.

Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) suffered the loss (5-5), allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two strikeouts.

Game Two:  Dominican charged back in the second game as cruised to an 8-0 victory in six innings.  The Lady Chargers got on the board in the second inning as Corrao scored on a KU fielding error.

DC added three more runs in the third inning to go ahead 3-0.  Left-handed pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) hit her fourth home run of the season, this one a two-run blast to right-center field.  Later, Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) produced an RBI single to right field.

Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Shannon Haukap (Edmonds, Wash.) gave Dominican a 4-0 lead in the fourth on the run scoring single up-the-middle.

The Lady Chargers tacked on three more runs in the sixth inning as shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) hit a two-run triple to center field and Haukap followed with an RBI ground out to second base for the eventual 8-0 victory.

Four different players had two hits in the win.

Childers got the win to improve to 11-8 with the shut out victory on seven hits.
