SOFTBALL WINS TWINBILL AGAINST WILMINGTON UNIVERSITY
New Castle, Del. (3/22/13) The Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team defeated host, Wilmington University, 8-2 and 8-6, this afternoon in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header played at Asbury Field. With the win DC improves to 5-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Wildcats fall to 11-13 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.

With the win DC improves to 5-9 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Wildcats fall to 11-13 overall and 0-2 in the CACC.
Game One: The Lady Chargers scored two runs in each of the first four innings. In the first, Julie Plante* (Swansea, Mass.) scored on a 'Cat error and Ashley Corrao* (Staten Island, N.Y.) reached on a fielder's choice that allowed a run to score for the 2-0 lead. WU countered with two runs in the bottom stanza to tie the score at 2-all.
In the second, Delaney Childers (Johnstown, Ohio) hit an RBI triple and she scored as Leanna Feerick (Maybrook, N.Y.) reached base on a dropped fly ball for a 4-2 advantage. In the third, senior Kathryn Coles* (Farmville, Va.) hit a two-run homer to right center field and the fourth saw Feerick deliver a run scoring single and Kimberly Ragazzo (Lawrenceville, N.J.) hit an RBI double to left field for an 8-2 lead and win.
Childers went 3-3 with two runs scored, while Plante, Ragazzo and Paige Berzak (Cypress, Calif.) all collected two hits in the win.
Childers improved to 3-5 overall in the complete game win, allowing two runs on seven hits and five strikeouts.
Game Two: DC struck early in game two as they scored three runs in the first inning as Ragazzo hit an RBI single to right field and pitcher Elizabeth Hogan (San Jose, Calif.) delivered a two-single through the left side for the 3-0 lead.
The 'Cats answered back with a six run second inning to claim a 6-3 lead, but Dominican got a run back in the third as right fielder Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, Va.) hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to score Corrao.
Dominican regained the lead in the sixth inning as they scored four runs. Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored on a bases loaded wild pitch and Ragazzo came through with a two-run two out single to right field to make the score 7-6. Wassman hit an RBI single to left field to give DC an 8-6 lead and win.
Corrao led the team with three hits.
Ragazzo went 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Childers and Feerick also had two hits in the win. Wassman and Hogan each finished with two RBIs.
Ragazzo picked up the win (1-3) as she pitched 5 2/3 innings of relief, scattering four hits.
Hogan went 1 1/3 in the start, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits.
DC is back in conference action on Sunday as they travel to Georgian Court University.
