CORRAO LEADS #6 LADY CHARGERS OVER #3 C.W. POST UNIVERSITY AT NCAA REGIONALS

Brookville, NY (5/4/12) Junior Ashley Corrao broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 12th inning with a two-run homer to lead the sixth-seeded Dominican College softball team to a 4-2 victory over third-seed, C.W. Post University, in its first game of the NCAA East II Regional on Friday. The Lady Chargers now advance into the winner's bracket on Saturday and will take on #2 Molloy College at 11am at the C.W. Post Softball Complex.

Brookville, NY (5/4/12)  Junior Ashley Corrao broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 12th inning with a two-run homer to lead the sixth-seeded Dominican College softball team to a 4-2 victory over third-seed, C.W. Post University, in its first game of the NCAA East II Regional on Friday.  The Lady Chargers now advance into the winner's bracket on Saturday and will take on #2 Molloy College at 11am at the C.W. Post Softball Complex.

In the 12th inning with two outs, Corrao connected on a pitch and blasted a shot over the left center field fence to score Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA), who had reached on a fielder's choice, and herself to score the first runs since the fifth inning and give DC the 4-2 lead.

In the bottom stanza pitcher, Delaney Childers, pitched a 1-2-3 inning for the 4-2 victory and her 23rd win of the season to break her own program record for wins in a season (22) set back in 2010.  In the complete game win, she allowed two runs (none earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts.

Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on the RBI single to left field off the bat of Childers.  The Pioneers came back with two runs in the bottom half of the innin to pull ahead 2-1.

Shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) went 3-6 in the game with a run scored, while Childers and junior Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) each collected two hits in the win.  Corrao's hit produced the team leading two runs.

Dominican takes on Molloy College at 11am.  If victorious, the team advances to the sub-regional final on Sunday.  If they lose, the will play in an elimination contest scheduled for 4:30 pm on Saturday afternoon.
