WOMEN'S SOFTBALL MOVE ON TO CACC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lakewood, NJ (4/27/12) The Dominican College softball team, the top seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament, advanced to the championship game after defeating the sixth-seeded Deacons of Bloomfield College, 12-5, this afternoon. With the win, the Lady Chargers remain undefeated in tournament play and will face the winner of the #5 Post University vs. #6 Bloomfield College tomorrow at 1pm.

Lakewood, NJ (4/27/12)  The Dominican College softball team, the top seed in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament, advanced to the championship game after defeating the sixth-seeded Deacons of Bloomfield College, 12-5, this afternoon.  With the win, the Lady Chargers remain undefeated in tournament play and will face the winner of the #5 Post University vs. #6 Bloomfield College tomorrow at 1pm.

Bloomfield took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Lady Chargers came back with three runs in the bottom stanza to go up 3-1.  Pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) hit an RBI single to left field and Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) later followed with a two-run single to right field.

The Deacons came back with a four-run third inning to regain a 5-3 advantage, but DC put three runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning.  Berzak came through again with a two-run double to left field and second basemen Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field to give the Lady Chargers a 6-5 lead.

DC added to the lead in the fourth and fifth innings as Childers had an RBI single in the fourth and senior Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA) had an RBI single in the fifth inning.  Dominican put the game away in the sixth inning with four runs with Berzak and out fielder Ashley Martinez*(Bloomfield, NJ) delivering RBI hits and shortstop Julie Plante*(Swansea, MA) hitting a two-run double for the 12-5 lead and eventual victory.

Childers got the complete game victory (22-7), allowing five runs (two earned) on eight hits and six strikeouts.
