TOP SEEDED LADY CHARGERS WIN TWO ON DAY ONE OF CACC SOFTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lakewood, NJ (4/26/12) The top-seeded Dominican College softball team advanced into the winner's bracket with two come-from-behind victories at the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Softball Championships being hosted by Georgian Court University. DC won their first game over #8 Holy Family University, 5-4, in eight innings and rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat #5 Post University, 11-3 in six innings.

DC won their first game over #8 Holy Family University, 5-4, in eight innings and rallied from a 2-0 deficit to defeat #5 Post University, 11-3 in six innings.
Game One: Dominican took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as junior shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) led off the inning with a solo home run over the right field fence. The Tigers pulled ahead with two runs in the second and fourth inning to go up 4-1.
The Lady Chargers came back to tie the game in the sixth as Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) singled to center field with two runners on base. A fielding and throwing error by the Tigers allowed all three runners to score and tie the game at 4-4.
In the eighth inning, Childers led off the inning with a walk and moved to second on the sacrifice bunt by Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA). Sophomore Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) through the right side and brought home Childers for the game-winning run and 5-4 victory.
Childers and Berzak each had two hits.
Senior Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) went four innings in the no decision, allowing four runs on seven hits and three strikeouts. Childers picked up the win (20-7) in four innings, scattering just one hit and striking out five batters.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers trailed 3-0 after four and a half innings when the team exploded for a six-run bottom of the fourth. Junior Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) drew a bases loaded walk to bring home a run and Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY) followed with an RBI fielder's choice. Plante later delivered her second home run of the day, this time a grand slam to right center to give DC a 6-3 lead.
Dominican added a run in the fifth on a solo home run to center field off the bat of Childers and closed out the game with four runs in the sixth for the 11-3 victory. In the sixth, Plante picked up her fifth RBI of the game with a single up-the-middle and catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) followed two batters later with a single down the left field line. Childers ended the game with a two-run double to left center field.
Childers got the game two win (21-7) after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits
Dominican is back in action tomorrow at 2pm at the CACC Softball Championships.
