CHILDERS NAMED CACC PITCHER OF THE YEAR
Orangeburg, NY (4/25/12) Dominican College softball player, Delaney Childers, has been named the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Pitcher of the year as was announced by the conference office yesterday. Five other Lady Chargers were honored with All-CACC accolades.
Orangeburg, NY (4/25/12) Dominican College softball player, Delaney Childers, has been named the 2012 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Pitcher of the year as was announced by the conference office yesterday. Five other Lady Chargers were honored with All-CACC accolades.
Along with Childers, Ashley Corrao and Julie Plante* were named to the All-CACC First Team.
All-CACC Second Team honors went to Paige Berzak, Kathryn Coles and Deidre Jeppson*.
Childers, a junior pitcher from Johnstown, OH, enjoyed a solid season on the mound as she led the CACC in the regular season with a league-low 0.94 earned run average. She held her opponents to a league-low .205 batting average against and posted 161 strikeouts, which ranked second among conference leaders. Childers finished the regular season with a 19-7 record on the mound with a total of 24 complete games and 10 shutouts. She was recognized as the CACC Pitcher of the Week three times this season and also garnered a CACC Player of the Week honor.
Corrao, a junior catcher from Staten Island, NY, earns her second straight First Team honors. She is currently second on the team in batting average, while ranking sixth in the CACC in batting and fourth in runs batted in. Corrao has started all 48 games behind the plate this season.
Plante, a junior shortstop who hails from Swansea, MA, also makes her second appearance on the First Team. She is third on the team in batting average, while leading the team in doubles, triples and runs scored. She is tied for team lead in hits and tied for second on team in RBIs. Plante was named CACC Payer of the Week and ECAC Hitter of the Week once this season. She has been a team captain for the past two years and recently recorded her 200th career hit this season.
Berzak, a sophomore first basemen from Cypress, CA, earns her first All-Conference accolades this season. She is sporting a .319 batting average in 43 games, while slugging .437 and has a .418 on-base percentage. She is tied for second on the team in RBIs and leads the team in fielding percentage.
Coles, a junior third basemen from Farmville, VA, is also making her first appearance on the All-CACC Second Team. She is currently fourth on the team in batting average and ranks in top twenty in CACC. Coles leads team and is seventh in CACC in home runs.
Jeppson, a senior outfielder from Sylmar, CA, makes her first appearance on the All-CACC Second Team. She is one of this year's captains and is third on the team in hits, while being fifth on the team in batting average. Jeppson picked up her 200th career hit this season.
