RIVER HAWKS SWEEP LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL
Orangeburg, NY (4/4/12) The visiting River Hawks from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell swept a non-conference double-header from host Dominican College this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The River Hawks took game one, 8-0, and won the second game, 11-9. Following the losses, Dominican now stands at 20-12 on the season.

The River Hawks took game one, 8-0, and won the second game, 11-9. Following the losses, Dominican now stands at 20-12 on the season.
Game One: The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when UMASS-Lowell struck for seven runs and added one in the eighth for the 8-0 victory.
DC had just three hits and made four errors.
Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Player of the Week, Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH), suffered the loss (12-6), allowing eight runs (one earned) on six hits and 10 strikeouts.
Game Two: The Lady Chargers bats came alive as they collected 10 hits, but it wasn't enough as the River Hawks held on for an 11-9 win.
UMASS-Lowell struck for six runs in the top half of the third inning, but Dominican scored two runs in the bottom stanza on an error and an RBI single by Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) to make the score 6-2.
The River Hawks tacked on two more runs in the fifth, but Dominican came back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 8-6. Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) accounted for all four runs as she hit a grand slam blast.
A three-run sixth inning for the River Hawks regained an 11-6 advantage and DC answered with two runs on an RBI double by Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) and and RBI single off the bat of Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA) saw the score become 11-8. In the seventh inning, Victoria LaPorte (Washingtonville NY) led off the inning with a solo home run to bring the Lady Chargers within two runs, 11-9.
Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) took the loss (8-6) in five innings of work, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two strikeouts. Childers pitched the last two innings, allowing three runs.
Dominican returns to action on Tuesday when they host Wilmington University in a CACC double-header at the DC Softball Field.
