SOFTBALL DOWNS NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/28/12) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from the visiting Warriors of Nyack College this afternoon at the DC Softball Field. The Lady Chargers took game one, 8-0, in six innings and won the second game, 8-1.

Game One: Dominican scored three runs in the first inning with two outs as Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) hit a two-run single up the middle and catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
Dominican added four runs in the fourth on a bunt single by Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) and Deidre Jeppson* (Sylmar, CA) was hit by-a-pitch to plate another run. A bases loaded walk to Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) brought home the third run of the inning and an RBI ground out by Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) gave DC a 7-0 lead. In the sixth, an RBI single to center field off the bat of Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) gave the Lady Chargers the 8-0 victory in six innings.
Childers got the win (10-4), scattering just two hits and recording eight strikeouts.
Game Two: Dominican led 1-0 after one inning of play on a bases loaded walk to Corrao. They extended the lead with four runs in the second off a two-run blast by Plante, a Warrior error and a single by Corrao to make the score 5-0.
The Warriors got a run back in the fourth inning, but the Lady Chargers put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning on a two-run double to left center field by Brielle Kerscher (Staten Island, NY). A run in the sixth on the solo home run by Childers gave DC the 8-1 victory.
Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) improved to 5-5 on the year, allowing just one run on six hits.
With the sweep, Dominican improves to 16-8 overall and 10-0 in conference play and extends their winning streak to ten games.
Dominican is back in action on Friday when they host Bloomfield College at the DC Softball Field.
