SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY DOWNS WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
Orangeburg, NY (3/14/12) The visiting Owls of Southern Connecticut State University downed the Dominican College Lady Chargers softball team in non-conference action played today at the DC Softball Field. The Owls rallied from 2-0 deficit in game one to win 4-2 and edged Dominican 2-1 in the second game. With the losses DC falls to 5-7 on the season, while SCSU improves to 8-0.

Game One: The Lady Chargers scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Shortstop Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) led off the game with a bunt single and Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) followed with a single through the right side. After advancing on a passed ball, both runs scored on a double up-the-middle by sophomore Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA).
The Owls struck back with two runs in the fourth and added two runs in the sixth for the eventual 4-2 victory.
Childers suffered the loss (4-4), allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and seven strikeouts.
Game Two: The game was scoreless until DC got on the board in the third inning as Plante reached base on a SCSU error with two outs and stole second base. Childers singled up-the-middle to plate Plante and give the Lady Chargers a 1-0 advantage.
A triple in the fifth by the Owls brought in two runs which would eventually win the game, 2-1.
Childers had two of the four DC hits in game two.
Right-handed hurler Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (1-3), allowing two runs on four hits and six strikeouts.
Dominican returns to non-conference action tomorrow when they travel to C.W. Post University.
