SOFTBALL FALLS TO FLORIDA INSTITUE OF TECHNOLOGY
Melbourne, FL (2/28/12) The Dominican College softball squad opened up the 2012 season with a non-conference double-header loss to host, Florida Tech, this afternoon in games played on the Nancy Bottge Field. DC lost the first game, 2-1 and fell in five innings, 15-1 in the night cap to now stand at 0-2 on the season, while Florida Tech improves to 10-9 overall.

DC lost the first game, 2-1 and fell in five innings, 15-1 in the night cap to now stand at 0-2 on the season, while Florida Tech improves to 10-9 overall.
Game One: Florida Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Chargers tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the sixth. First basemen Paige Berzak (Cypress, CA) led off the inning with a walk and Jordan Flavell-Boney (Northvale, NJ) came in to pinch run for her. Catcher Ashley Corrao (Staten Island, NY) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second and Shelby Wassmann (Loudoun, VA) reacged on a fielder's choice to load the bases.
Kathryn Coles (Farmville, VA) hit a one out sacrifice fly ball to center field to plate Flavell-Boney for the 1-1 scored. FIT answered back with an unearned run in the bottom stanza for the eventual 2-1 victory.
Junior left-handed pitcher Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) suffered the complete game loss (0-1), allowing two runs (none earned) on seven hits.
Game Two: Game two saw the Panthers take a 1-0 lead after one inning and put seven runs on the board in the third and fourth stanzas. DC's lone run game in the fourth inning as Corrao led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a single down the left field line by Wassmann and moved to third as Wassmann was thrown out trying to advance to second. Coles hit an RBI groundout to second base which made the score 8-1 FIT.
A seven run fourth inning by the Panthers secured the 15-1 five inning victory.
Starter Katrina Pistilli* (Staten Island, NY) suffered the loss (0-1), allowing eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits in three innings of work. Julie Plante* (Swansea, MA) pitched the fourth inning, allowing seven runs on two hits.
Dominican returns to action tomorrow as they take on Eckerd College in another non-conference double-header.
