SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM GOLDEY-BEACOM

Wilmington, DE (4/24/10) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Goldey-Beacom College, 6-0 and 6-5, in games held at Churchman Field this afternoon.

Wilmington, DE (4/24/10)  The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from host Goldey-Beacom College, 6-0 and 6-5, in games held at Churchman Field this afternoon.

Dominican broke open a scoreless game with two runs in the third inning of game one as catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) hit a two-run double to take a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Chargers added two more runs in their half of the fourth inning as senior Cara Piasekci (Port Monmouth, NJ) hit an RBI double and Scarillo followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0.  An RBI double by Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) and an RBI single by Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) in the top of the seventh put Dominican ahead for what would be the final score of 6-0.

Sophomore Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 12-5 with the complete game, shut-out victory, allowing six hits and collecting four strikeouts.

In game two, Dominican held a 2-1 advantage after one full inning as Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) led off the game by reaching pass on a Lightning error and would later score on a passed ball.  Piasecki collected her 200th career hit later in the inning with an RBI single.

A four-run third inning put DC ahead 6-1 as back-to-back triples with two outs by Deidre Jeppson (Slymar, CA) and Martinieri each platted two runs.  GBC answered back with their own four-run inning in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of two Lady Charger errors to cut the deficit to the final 6-5 score.

Rookie Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) improved to 18-7 in 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits.  Pistilli came in to record her first save of the season in the final 1 2/3 innings.

With the sweep Dominican improves to 30-12 overall and 20-2 in the CACC.
