Orangeburg, NY (4/21/10) The Dominican College softball team, currently ranked seventh in the East Region, had a seven game winning streak snapped after splitting a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header with Concordia College at the DC Softball Field.
The Lady Chargers won the first game by a score of 10-8, but fell in the second game, 3-2.
In game one, DC put a run on the board on the RBI single by left fielder Ashley Martinez (Bloomfield, NJ). Dominican tacked on seven runs in the second inning as Delaney Childers (Johnstown, OH) delivered an RBI single and catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) followed with a two-run single. Martinez later added a two-run double and two runs scored on passed balls to extend the lead to 8-0.
The Clippers cut the deficit to 8-3 in the fifth, but the Lady Chargers regained a 10-3 lead with two runs in the sixth on the two-run double to right center by Scarillo.
Concordia made it interesting with five runs in the top of the fifth, capped off by a three run homer, but Childers came in to pick up the save by getting the ground-ball out.
Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) got the win (11-5) in 6 2/3 innings of work, allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Childers got her third save of the season.
In game two, Dominican had a 2-0 lead, going into the sixth inning when Concordia scored three runs for what would be the final 3-2 score. Both of DC's runs came in the third inning as Deidre Jeppson (Sylmar, CA) led off the inning with a single and later scored on a passed ball. Freshman Julie Plante (Swansea, MA) hit a ground ball to second which brought in Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA).
Childers suffered the loss (15-7), allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and recording nine strikeouts.
With the split Dominican moves to 26-12 overall and 16-2 in the CACC.
