SOFTBALL SWEEPS NYACK COLLEGE
Orangeburg, NY (3/26/09) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from visiting Nyack College, 8-0 and 9-1 in five innings this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.
Orangeburg, NY (3/26/09) The Dominican College softball team swept a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) double-header from visiting Nyack College, 8-0 and 9-1 in five innings this afternoon at the DC Softball Field.
DC struck for five runs in the opening stanza as senior Sarah Beck (Milton, NY) had an RBI double and Jamie Ollari (Hopatcong, NJ) brought in a run on a fielder's choice. Beck came in to score on an error and junior Jessica Martinieri (Tampa, FL) had a two run single to give Dominican a commanding 5-0 lead.
The Lady Chargers added three runs in the bottom of the fourth on a three run blast over the left field fence by catcher Nicole Scarillo (South Amboy, NJ) as Dominican won the opening game 8-0 in five innings.
Junior Danielle Garrison (Coatesville, PA) picked up the win to improve to 4-1, scattering just two hits and striking out 11 batters.
In game two, Dominican once again got on the board early with a two run first inning on RBI singles by shortstop Cara Piasecki (Port Monmouth, NJ) and Scarillo. The Lady Chargers added to the lead with a three run second inning as outfielder Nicole Philpot (Dingmans Ferry, PA) had a two run single and Piasecki had a solo home run over the left field fence to take a 5-0 lead. An RBI single by Martinieri in the third brought the lead up to 6-0.
Nyack put a run on the board in the fifth on a solo home run, but DC responded with three runs in the bottom stanza on an RBI double by Ollari and an RBI single by Lauren Galladay (Aberdeen, NJ). The final run was scored as junior Kelli Rehm (Livingston, NJ) had an RBI single and gave the Lady Chargers the 9-1 win.
Freshman hurler Katrina Pistilli (Staten Island, NY) improved to 5-3 overall in the win, allowing one run on two hits and eight strikeouts.
With the victories Dominican improves to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the CACC.
