Orangeburg, N.Y. (3/12/21) The Dominican College men's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a 4-0 win over the Cougars of Caldwell University.
With the win, the Chargers improve to 1-0 (1-0 CACC). The Cougars fall to 0-2 (0-2 CACC) on the season.
DC opened the scoring 26 seconds into the game when Ewan Gray (Middlesbrough, England) scored for the early 1-0 lead. At the 20:02 mark, DC added to their lead with a goal by Jacob Owen (Middlesbrough, England) off the corner kick by Maximino Casares Martinez (Ciudad De Panama, Panama) who earned the assist.
DC took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Guilherme Pirana (Jundiai, Brazil) extended the lead to 3-0 with a goal after forcing a turnover. Nicholas Julien (Spring Valley, N.Y.) extended the lead to 4-0 with less than ten minutes remaining. Nicholas DiGuglielmo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) recorded an assist on the final goal.
Joshua Stephens (Stony Creek, Ontario) earned his first win of the season with the shutout.
DC recorded a total of 17 shots in the game. The Chargers took 12 shots in the first half and five shots in the second half. Ewan Gray led the team in shots with five.
The Chargers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 17th when they travel to Holy Family University. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
