Orangeburg, N.Y. (10/20/18) The Dominican College men's soccer team fell in double overtime to the visiting Wildcats of Wilmington University, 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match played this afternoon on the DC Soccer Field.
Dominican falls to 5-11 overall and 3-8 in the conference, while Wilmington improves to 11-1-4 overall and 8-1-2 in the CACC.
Both teams played a scoreless first half, while the Chargers held a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 4-1 lead in corners.
WU scored a goal in the 56th minute and held that lead until the 89:29 mark when freshman midfielder Maximino Casares Martinez (Ciudad de Panama, Panama) netted the game-tying goal.
The Wildcats had three shots in the first overtime, while Dominican had one. In the second overtime a shot from the right side in the 102nd minute lifted Wilmington to the 2-1 victory.
Wilmington held the 15-13 lead in shots for the match, while DC had 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Keeper Tyler Doll (St. Louis, Mo.) made three saves in the contest.
Martinez and Marouf Barry (Bronx, N.Y.) each had two shots on goal.
DC will concluded CACC play this coming Tuesday as they host Bloomfield College on the DC Soccer Field.
