CHARGERS DROP SEASON OPENER TO OWLS

Garden City, N.Y. (9/1/16) The Dominican College men's soccer team dropped their opening game of the 2016 season to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 2-1, in a game played Motamed Field on the campus of Adelphi University.

Garden City, N.Y. (9/1/16)  The Dominican College men's soccer team dropped their opening game of the 2016 season to the Owls of Southern Connecticut State University, 2-1, in a game played Motamed Field on the campus of Adelphi University.

Junior forward Fernando Gutierrez (Mexico City, Mexico) put the Chargers ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute of action on a shot from 16 yards out that went over the goalie and into the net.

SCSU tied the game less than two minutes later and the scored remained tied until the 62:18 mark when the Owls scored a goal on a shot from outside the 18 for the eventual game-winner.

Freshman forward Sergio Monton (Madrid Spain) led Dominican with three shots in the game.

Senior goalie Steven Hegner (Pomona, N.Y.) made seven saves in the loss.

Dominican will return to Motamed Field on Saturday to take on Adelphi University for a 7pm contest.
