MEN'S LACROSSE WIN SEASON OPENER OVER GEORGIAN COURT UNIVERSITY
Lakewood, N.J. (2/20/16) The Dominican College men's lacrosse team opened up the 2016 season with a 9-4 non-conference victory over host, Georgian Court University, in a game played this afternoon.

The Chargers opened the scoring with the first two goals of the game as freshman midfielder Blake Israel (Parkland, Fla.) recorded his first collegiate goal with 10:10 left in the quarter. Sophomore Kevin Mayer* (Wantagh, N.Y.) followed with his first goal of the season off the pass from Israel to give the Chargers the 2-0 lead. A GCU goal closed out the first quarter and made the score 2-1.
The lone goal in the second quarter was credited to Charger Conor Reeves* (Tappan, N.Y.) off the assist from Ryan Wiberly (Setauket, N.Y.) to put Dominican ahead 3-1 at halftime.
Freshman Aaron Yulfo (Shirley, N.Y.) started the scoring off in the third quarter with a goal from Wiberly and the pair later connected again with a little over than four minutes left in the frame to increase the lead to 5-2.
In the fourth quarter the Chargers pulled away with a three unanswered goals to go up 8-2. Israel began the run with his second game goal and junior Sean Driscoll (Stony Point, N.Y.) followed off the pass from David Arent (Huntington Beach, Calif.). Arent followed with his first collegiate goal off the assist from Driscoll for the six-goal lead with 11:48 remaining.
Following a GCU goal Driscoll knotched his second game goal and the Lions scored the final goal of the game for the 9-4 score.
Yulfo, Driscoll and Israel all had two goals in the win, while Wiberly had three assists.
Goalie Carlos Villaman (Montgomery, N.Y.) made 11 saves.
With the win, the Chargers are now 1-0 on the season.
DC will travel to non-conference opponent, Saint Anselm College next Saturday.
