LAST SECOND SHOT LIFTS COUGARS TO WIN OVER CHARGERS
Caldwell, N.J. (12/9/25) Five players from the Dominican University New York men's basketball team scored in double figures, but a last second shot by the Cougars of Caldwell University would lift them to an 81-78 victory this evening in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game played in the Newman Center.
Following the loss, the Chargers now stand at 5-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Dominican used a 12-2 run early in the first half to claim a 15-4 lead and would hold a lead until the 1:57 mark when the Cougars hit a three-point basket to tie the score at 37-37. DUNY would later close out the half with two free throws to take a 42-39 advantage at the break.
The second half was a back and forth battle that saw Caldwell take the lead for good with 3:36 left in the game as they hit a free throw. The Cougars would extend the lead to five points (78-73) with just over a minute to go, but the Chargers would rally with a layup by Chance Morrish and a trey from Isaiah Honis to knot the score at 78-all with 22 seconds to play. Caldwell scored the game-winning three with two seconds to go for the 81-78 victory.
Sophomore guard Elijah Peters came off the bench to score a team best 19 points (8-10 from the floor).
Morrish finished with 13 points and four assists, while Koi D. Kirk, Jr. netted 12 points and six rebounds.
Seniors Javel Cherry and Honis scored 11 points a-piece, with Honis adding four rebounds.
Key'Sean Maynard pulled down a team best eight rebounds and had four assists in the loss.
Dominican returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Chestnut Hill College.
