CHARGERS EARN FIRST CACC WIN OF THE SEASON

The Chargers edged the Cougars 74-73 to improve to 7-0 (1-0 CACC). The Cougars fall to 3-3 (0-1 CACC).
Wahaad Johnson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the way for the Chargers in points with 18 and made all eight of his free-throw attempts. Daniel Grant (Middletown, N.Y.) added 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Justin Copman (Cumberland, Md.) completed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Copman also added two blocks. Jalen Burgess (Springfield Gardens, N.Y.) finished with 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Joshua Serrano (Amityville, N.Y.) added 13 points off the bench.
For CU, Jarnel Rancy finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Anthony Cooper added 16 points, three steals, and three assists. Mark Heber scored 14 points and recorded four rebounds, Derrick Bueno finished with a team-high 15 rebounds.
The Chargers got off to a fast start in the first half and held their largest lead of the game over the Cougars which was 16 points. The Chargers were led by Serrano in the opening half who scored 12 points.
The Cougars used a 24-12 run to finish the first half and went into halftime trailing DC 40-36.
Caldwell took the lead in the second half for the first time since early on in the first half. CU extended out to their largest lead over the Chargers which was six points. DC came back to even the score and both teams played an even game down the stretch.
The Cougars led 73-69 with 32 seconds remaining. Johnson was sent to the free-throw line and he knocked down both to cut the deficit to two points.
With 15 seconds remaining, Derrick Bueno was sent to the line for the Cougars and he missed out on extending the Cougar lead.
Trailing by two points, Burgess nailed a three-pointer with six seconds remaining to put the Chargers up by a score of 74-73. The Cougars were unable to answer and the Chargers secured their first conference win of the season.
The Chargers will return home on Saturday, December 4th when they host Felician University at 3:00 PM.
