IRVIN NETS CAREER HIGH 38 POINTS IN LOSS TO NYIT

(12/19/16) Dominican College junior forward Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) netted a career high 38 points, 21 one of them in the first half, but it wasn't enough as the Chargers fell in non-conference action to the visiting Bears of New York Institute of Technology, 95-89, this evening in a game played on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

Irvin netted seven of ten shots from the floor, including three three-point baskets, in the first stanza for 21 points.
Dominican (7-5) trailed 7-4 early in the contest when the offense awoke and went on a 18-8 run to take a 22-15 lead with just under twelve minutes to go in the half. Irvin later recorded a three to give DC an eight-point advantage (37-29) with 6:15 on the clock. The Bears rallied as they closed the half on a 21-9 run to claim a 50-46 advantage.
The Charger offense shot well in the first half as they went 15-29 (51.7%) from the floor, 7-12 (58.3%) from the three point arc and were 9-11 (81.8%) from the charity stripe.
NYIT would lead by as many as 12 points in the second half, but the Chargers charged back with a 28-11 run to pull back ahead 76-71 with 6:41 left in regulation. The Bears would score the next eight points to regain the lead for good en route to the win.
Irvin led all scorers and completed the team's only double-double with 13 rebounds.
Daraja Rodwell (Baldwin, N.Y.) finished with 17 points, while Travis Cook (Middletown, N.Y.) added 14 points and two steals.
Kristopher Hargraves (Teaneck, N.J.) came off the bench to record a night best eight assists.
DC returns to action on December 30th when they travel to St. Michael's College.
