Bronxville, N.Y. (2/9/16) The Dominican College men's basketball team fell in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action this evening to host, Concordia College, 85-77, in a game played at the Meyer Athletic Center.
Concordia opened the contest with an 8-2 lead, but DC charged back with six straight points to knot the score at 8-8 with 16:04 left in the half. An 11-2 Clipper run rebuilt a 19-10 lead with a little over 14 minutes remaining in the first stanza. Domican countered once again with a 20-10 run, fueled by back-to-back-to-back treys from seniors Sean O'Reilly (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Glenn Scalia (River Vale, N.J.), to put them ahead, 30-29, with 8:53 on the clock. CC scored the next 12 points and eventually went into the locker room with a 54-45 lead.
Trailing 69-65 with 10:16 left in regulation, Dominican went on a 6-0 run off of three-point baskets from O'Reilly and guard Joe Clinton* (Pearl River, N.Y.) to pull ahead, 71-69. Concordia answered and led 79-74 with under two minutes to play, but an and-one play from the CACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, Kristopher Hargraves* (Teaneck, N.J.) cut the deficit to a single possession with a minute and half left. That would be as close as DC would get as the Clippers closed out the game with six free throws for the victory.
Sophomore Gerrel Irvin (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led three Chargers in double figures with a career high 20 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
O'Reilly came off the bench to finish with 12 points, while Hargraves finished with 11 points and four steals.
With the loss, Dominican falls to 8-15 overall and 7-7 in CACC play.
DC will travel to Goldey-Beacom College this Thursday evening.
