LAST SECOND BASKET LIFTS BLOOMFIELD TO VICTORY

(1/26/16) The Bloomfield College Bears used a layup as time expired in regulation to lift the men's basketball team to a 78-76 victory over the Dominican College Chargers in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash played this evening on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.

(1/26/16) The Bloomfield College Bears used a layup as time expired in regulation to lift the men's basketball team to a 78-76 victory over the Dominican College Chargers in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division Clash played this evening on Coach Baxter Court in the Hennessy Center.
Bloomfield led 25-15 with a little under nine minutes remaining in the first half when the Chargers charged back with an 18-8 run to tie the score at 33-all. Senior guard Sean O'Reilly (Colts Neck, N.J) netted eight of the points including back-to-back treys and a jump shot. Tied at 37-37 with 35 seconds left in the half, Kristopher Hargraves* (Teaneck, N.J.) converted two free throw opportunities to give the Chargers a 39-37 edge at the intermission.
O'Reilly finished the half with 13 points, while Austin-John Huggins (Astoria, Queens) came off the bench to score nine points.
A free throw from Ethan Smith, Jr. (Nyack, N.Y.) with 9:00 left in regulation gave DC their biggesst lead of the second half at 62-56, but the Bears countered with a 14-7 run to go in front 70-69. With 22 ticks on the clock, Huggins connected on two foul shots to give Dominican the 76-74 lead, but two Bloomfield free throws tied the game for the 12 time at 76-all. Following a Charger turnover, the Bears missed a shot, but was able to get the rebound and lay it in the hoop as time expiered for the win.
The contest featured 47 total fouls called, including four technicals and a combined 60 free throws taken. The Bears went 27-36 from the line, while the Chargers were 16-24.
O'Reilly led all scorers with a career high 23 points in the loss, going 5-7 from the three point arc.
Hargraves finished with 14 points, three steals and team highs of eight rebounds and seven assists.
Huggins netted 11 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Following the loss, the Chargers stand at 6-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
Dominican returns to action on Thursday evening when they host CACC North Division rival, Nyack College.
